Bengaluru Metro Pink Line Update: Third Rail Testing Begins on Jayadeva–Tavarekere Stretch, Full Line by 2026

Bengaluru Metro Pink Line Update

Bengaluru — In a significant development for Bengaluru’s metro expansion, the third rail testing has commenced on the elevated section of the upcoming Pink Line between Jayadeva and Tavarekere stations. This marks a crucial step toward operational readiness of the line’s southern segment.

According to officials from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), the 7.5-km elevated stretch from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere is slated for commissioning by March 2026. This portion of the Pink Line, which includes key transit points like Jayadeva Junction — the city’s first double-decker interchange station — is expected to ease traffic congestion in southern Bengaluru and offer improved connectivity to major residential and commercial hubs.

Meanwhile, work continues on the 13.8-km underground stretch of the Pink Line, running from Dairy Circle to Nagawara. This more complex section, which involves tunneling beneath densely populated neighborhoods, is projected to be completed and opened to the public by September 2026.

The Pink Line, also referred to as the Gottigere–Nagawara line (Reach 6 of Phase 2), is a major north-south metro corridor that will connect key zones in the city, linking the IT hubs in the south with the industrial and commercial centers in the north. Once operational, the entire 21.3-km stretch will significantly reduce travel times and enhance last-mile connectivity.

With civil work nearing completion on several stretches and systems integration underway, BMRCL is pushing forward to meet the revised timelines after facing delays due to land acquisition hurdles and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The third rail — a power supply component critical for train operations — is now being laid and tested to ensure safety and functionality before full-scale trial runs commence. BMRCL plans to begin trial operations on the Kalena Agrahara–Tavarekere stretch by the end of this year.

Once fully operational, the Pink Line will be a game changer for urban mobility in Bengaluru, catering to thousands of daily commuters and helping to decongest major arterial roads.
