Kochi, June 16, 2025 — The Kerala government has cleared the way for the Ayyampuzha Global City project by approving the negotiated purchase of 358 acres of land. This move comes after years of delays and marks a major step in the Kochi-Bangalore Industrial Corridor plan.
The project was first announced as “Kochi Gift City” but was later renamed after the central government withdrew support, citing too much focus on housing instead of industry.
To avoid long legal delays, the state will now buy land directly from owners through mutual agreements. A special committee, including the local MLA and district officials, will oversee the process. Formal approval from the revenue department is expected soon.
Out of the 358 acres, only 215 acres will be set aside for industries. The rest will be used for residential and commercial purposes. The Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) is funding the ₹849 crore needed for land purchase.
Kinfra, the agency in charge, says the project will still be profitable. Industry Minister P. Rajeeve has visited the site and is monitoring progress closely.
The project is expected to boost local development, though experts warn that limited industrial space could raise setup costs for businesses.
