Hyderabad, June 14, 2025 — The Telangana government has announced a major push to build 20 lakh homes for poor and homeless families under the revived Indiramma Housing Scheme.
Phase-wise Rollout
In the first phase, 4.5 lakh homes have been approved. Each assembly constituency will receive 3,500 houses. An extra 10,000 houses will be given to tribal communities, especially the Chenchu tribes.
Funding and Progress
The project will cost around ₹22,500 crore and will be completed over the next 3 to 4 years. So far, 2.1 lakh families have been selected, and over 24,000 homes are already under construction.
Support for Tribal and Rural Areas
The government is helping forest dwellers build homes on land they already live on. Land record issues are being resolved under the new Bhu Bharati Act, replacing the earlier Dharani system.
Contrast with Previous Government
Officials said the earlier BRS government only sanctioned 92,000 houses, many of which were never completed. In contrast, the current government promises full delivery and funding for all 20 lakh homes.
Political Context
Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the scheme shows the government’s commitment to welfare and urged people to support the Congress in upcoming local elections.
