Mysore, Karnataka – In a significant boost to the city’s evolving hospitality sector, Marriott International is set to launch a premium hotel featuring 233 rooms. Designed as a high-rise with 3 basements, a ground floor, and 12 upper floors (3B+G+12F), the development will stand as one of the tallest hospitality structures in Mysore. This project highlights Marriott’s commitment to strengthening its footprint in high-growth Tier-2 cities, with Mysore emerging as a prime location for luxury hospitality.
Strategically located near the Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hills, and Mysuru Zoo, the hotel will cater to both business and leisure travelers. The architecture is expected to blend contemporary style with regional influences, offering upscale experiences through multi-cuisine dining venues, a rooftop bar, wellness and spa facilities, a business center, expansive banquet halls, a fitness center, and a swimming pool. This addition is likely to elevate Mysore’s appeal as a premium travel and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destination.

Taj Makes a Regal Debut in Mysore
In parallel, The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), the hospitality arm of the Tata Group, is marking its entry into Mysore with the city’s first Taj-branded hotel. The project involves the conversion of the existing Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel on M.G. Road into a luxury Taj property. The site spans 5.03 acres, and IHCL is set to take operational control from March 2025, following the expiration of the current operator’s lease.
The rebranded Taj Mysore will feature around 200 rooms designed in the Indo-Saracenic architectural style, reflecting Mysore’s regal past. Guests will enjoy panoramic views of landmarks like the Chamundi Hills, Mysore Palace, and the golf course. The hotel will include all-day and specialty dining options, a stylish bar and lounge, a spa, swimming pool, gym, and over 11,000 square feet of banqueting space. Developed in collaboration with DM South India Hospitality Pvt. Ltd., this project is expected to open by late 2025 or early 2026. Notably, this development comes after IHCL’s previously proposed conversion of the historic Lalitha Mahal Palace was shelved due to lack of consensus with the Karnataka government.

Mysore’s Rising Hospitality Landscape
Mysore is rapidly evolving from a heritage tourism hub into a thriving hospitality market, driven by a combination of cultural appeal, infrastructural upgrades, and economic diversification. The city’s proximity to Bengaluru, along with steady growth in sectors like IT, education, and manufacturing, has attracted both tourists and professionals in increasing numbers. The government’s focus on smart city development, better road and air connectivity, and heritage conservation has further strengthened Mysore’s positioning.
This expansion has spurred demand for world-class accommodations, especially from affluent domestic tourists and international travelers visiting nearby destinations such as Coorg, Kabini, Bandipur, and Ooty. With Taj and Marriott now entering the city, Mysore is poised to attract a broader audience—including business travelers, wellness seekers, wedding planners, and event organizers. These high-end developments also bring considerable socio-economic benefits, including job creation, upskilling opportunities, and an uplift in ancillary industries such as retail, transport, and food services.
What Lies Ahead
Construction of the Marriott hotel is actively progressing and is expected to be completed by 2026. Meanwhile, the transformation of Radisson Blu into the Taj Mysore will commence shortly after March 2025, with operations likely to begin by the end of the same year or early 2026. Together, these two iconic projects signify a new chapter in Mysore’s hospitality narrative—blending legacy and innovation, and positioning the city as a premier destination for luxury and experiential travel in South India.
