Despite the fact that digitization was meant to speed up and increase transparency, some applicants complain that lengthy wait times result from officials still manually verifying online applications. Despite comprehensive document submissions and online acknowledgments, transfers have occasionally been delayed for months.
One of the main causes of the delay, according to Revenue Department officials, is the difficulty of verification. They draw attention to the fact that many Chennai properties have old field records that require physical verification, ownership conflicts, or inadequate documentation. This has led to a backlog in the system, particularly as officials deal with an increasing volume of applications as a result of the city’s rising real estate transactions.
However, locals contend that if manual involvement still dominates the process, the goal of digitization is being undermined. Experts advise the government to incorporate end-to-end automation, which includes direct digital approval workflows and field verification via GIS mapping. This would guarantee time-bound services and reduce human intervention. Current backlogs may also be cleared with the aid of more staff training and routine monitoring of outstanding applications.
