The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has recorded its highest-ever property tax collection, crossing ₹2,700 crore during the ongoing 2025–26 financial year. The milestone was achieved up to December 31, 2025, marking a significant increase compared to the same period in the previous financial year. Officials stated that the collections reflect improved compliance levels and the impact of policy measures aimed at widening the tax base.
According to official data, property tax revenue has increased by around 45 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2024–25. The rise has been attributed to a combination of enhanced taxpayer outreach, digital payment facilitation, and the implementation of targeted incentive schemes designed to encourage voluntary compliance among property owners.
A major contributor to the record collection has been the SUNIYO property tax amnesty scheme introduced for the current financial year. Under this initiative, taxpayers are allowed to clear outstanding dues from the past five years along with the current year’s tax, while receiving full waiver of interest and penalty charges. The scheme has seen strong participation from both existing and first-time taxpayers.
Officials said that nearly 1.70 lakh property owners have benefited from the amnesty scheme, contributing close to ₹933 crore to the overall collections. Of this amount, approximately ₹320 crore has come from around 91,000 newly registered taxpayers who were previously outside the property tax system. The number of registered taxpayers in Delhi has increased substantially, rising from about 10.31 lakh last year to nearly 12.43 lakh in the current year.
Despite the record-breaking performance, the civic body noted that a significant number of registered taxpayers are yet to clear their dues fully. More than six lakh properties reportedly have either unpaid or partially paid tax liabilities. Authorities have urged these taxpayers to take advantage of the extended amnesty window, which remains open until January 31, 2026, to avoid future enforcement measures.
The record property tax collection is expected to strengthen the municipal body’s financial position and support funding for civic infrastructure, public services, and urban development initiatives across the national capital.
