The Delhi government has approved the renovation of 2,416 ready-to-move flats in Sawda Ghevra to improve housing facilities for underprivileged residents. The decision was taken at the 34th Board Meeting of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Officials have been directed to complete all repair and renovation work by January 15, ensuring the project moves forward without any financial constraints.

During the meeting, authorities were instructed to ensure that essential services such as water supply, electricity, sanitation systems, solid waste management, and other civic amenities are fully functional before the flats are allotted. The board also approved renovation work in colonies located in Sultanpuri, Dwarka, and Bhalswa, expanding the scope of infrastructure improvement across multiple resettlement zones.

A key focus of the government’s plan is enhancing community infrastructure. The approved upgrades include the development of community halls, vegetable markets, internal roads, improved sewer networks, and better street lighting to support safer and more accessible neighbourhoods. These improvements aim to ensure that residents receive not just housing but a well-equipped and sustainable living environment.

To strengthen health services in low-income areas, the government has also authorized the establishment of 124 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs within DUSIB colonies. These centres are expected to provide easier access to primary healthcare facilities for thousands of families.

In addition, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to integrate mobility and transport support within resettlement colonies. Instructions were issued to create designated e-rickshaw charging stations and ensure adequate parking spaces, helping residents commute more efficiently and safely.

This renovation initiative is part of a larger plan to refurbish and utilize thousands of existing but unoccupied Economically Weaker Section (EWS) flats across Delhi. By prioritizing repairs and essential services, the government aims to make better use of its housing assets while significantly improving living standards for economically vulnerable families.
