After nearly two years of delays, the Goripalya‑Hosahalli railway bridge in west Bengaluru is finally open to the public. The bridge is expected to improve connectivity and reduce traffic congestion for daily commuters.
Construction began in early 2023 after officials found the old bridge unsafe. The project was initially planned to finish in 18 months with a budget of ₹6 crore. However, unexpected issues caused delays.
During early construction, workers discovered live electricity lines running under the site without proper clearance. This required coordination with the Karnataka Electricity Board. New routes had to be approved, and replacement lines installed. These steps took several months.
The project also included building approach roads, reinforced kerbs, and installing streetlights. The final cost rose to around ₹12 crore. The bridge now features 200 metres of new approaches and 20 streetlights to ensure safety and accessibility.
Local residents and commuters had faced long detours and heavy traffic before the bridge was completed. Many have welcomed the opening. Officials say the bridge will ease travel between Goripalya, Hosahalli, and nearby areas. Commute times for thousands of daily travellers are expected to reduce significantly.
Railway authorities will continue monitoring traffic patterns and gather feedback from users. They plan to make minor adjustments if needed to ensure smooth operations.
The bridge is also expected to support future infrastructure development in west Bengaluru. Its completion marks an important milestone for the city’s transport network.
With its modern design, safety features, and improved connectivity, the Goripalya‑Hosahalli railway bridge is set to benefit residents, commuters, and local businesses alike.
