The Gujarat government is set to build an international-standard Medicity near Kalol. The project will cost Rs 13,000 crore. It aims to turn the region into a major healthcare hub. The announcement was made on Republic Day, reflecting the state’s focus on healthcare and infrastructure development.
The Medicity will follow the Dubai Healthcare City model. It will feature multi-speciality hospitals, research centres, a medical college, wellness centres, and other healthcare services. The initiative is designed to attract both domestic and international patients. It will also promote medical innovation and advanced healthcare practices.
The government is selecting land between Kadi and Kalol for the project. The location is strategic, close to Ahmedabad’s international airport, hospitals, and pharmaceutical clusters. This makes it ideal for healthcare investment and medical tourism.
Officials said the Medicity will support medical value travel. A dedicated board with members from the health and tourism departments will manage international patient inflows. The project aims to strengthen Gujarat’s healthcare ecosystem and position the state as a leading medical tourism destination in India.
Construction will happen in phases, with significant progress expected by 2028. Once operational, the Medicity will create employment opportunities and improve access to modern healthcare services. It will also boost medical education, research, and allied healthcare services.
The project is expected to transform north Gujarat into a healthcare and innovation hub. With world-class hospitals, research centres, and modern facilities, it will set new standards for medical care in the region. The Medicity is poised to benefit residents and international patients alike, elevating Gujarat’s profile as a centre for healthcare excellence.
