The Gurugram district administration has made it mandatory for all large construction sites—covering over 500 square meters—to register on the Haryana State Pollution Control Board’s (HSPCB) dust portal. This initiative aims to curb rising air pollution levels and ensure stricter compliance with environmental guidelines across the city.
Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar directed all project developers and construction agencies to complete the registration process promptly. He emphasized that the new rule is part of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage-2 measures, designed to monitor and control dust emissions at the source.
As per the directive, every large construction site must implement dust-control mechanisms such as installing green nets, using water sprinklers, deploying anti-smog guns, and ensuring vehicles transporting materials are properly covered. Regular site inspections will be carried out to verify compliance, and violators may face strict action from the authorities.
The administration has also prohibited open waste burning in Gurugram to minimize air pollution. Municipal bodies, including the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) and Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM), have been instructed to increase the frequency of water sprinkling on main roads and green belts. Additionally, the transport department will intensify checks on heavy vehicles entering the city from other states to control vehicular emissions.
Deputy Commissioner Kumar stated that controlling air pollution is a shared responsibility, urging both builders and residents to cooperate with the government’s pollution-control measures. The HSPCB will continue to monitor industrial units to ensure adherence to emission norms and take swift action against non-compliant entities.
The move is part of the broader NCR pollution-control strategy to tackle worsening air quality during winter. By focusing on large construction sites and other major pollution sources, Gurugram authorities aim to significantly reduce dust and particulate matter levels, promoting cleaner and healthier air for residents.
