The Karnataka Cabinet has granted in-principle approval for the construction of a new international-level cricket stadium at Suryanagar, Anekal, on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Estimated to cost ₹2,350 crore, the project aims to create a world-class sports infrastructure hub in southern Bengaluru.
According to government officials, the upcoming stadium will be developed over 75 acres of land and designed to meet international standards for hosting national and global cricket tournaments. Apart from cricket, the venue is also expected to accommodate non-sporting events such as concerts, conclaves, exhibitions, and large-scale public gatherings — positioning it as a multi-use facility for the city.
The project is part of the state government’s broader initiative to expand sporting infrastructure and promote Karnataka as a preferred destination for major sporting events. Once completed, the stadium is expected to decongest existing venues like the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, offering an alternative world-class facility for both players and spectators.
Anekal, located in the southern corridor of Bengaluru, has witnessed rapid urban development in recent years, driven by connectivity to Electronic City and the upcoming Peripheral Ring Road. The addition of an international cricket stadium is anticipated to further enhance the locality’s prominence, attracting hospitality, retail, and commercial investments around the area.
Officials stated that the project will follow a public-private partnership (PPP) model, ensuring sustainable development and efficient project execution. Further details on timelines, partners, and design plans will be announced in the coming months.
The approval also comes alongside other infrastructure measures cleared in the Cabinet meeting, including extensions for Occupancy Certificate (OC) exemptions, indicating a continued focus on urban development and real-estate facilitation in Bengaluru.
