As the Noida International Airport (Jewar) prepares for its launch, a new survey has revealed a significant amount of unused industrial land in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area. Despite the region being a key industrial hub expected to benefit from the airport, a majority of the industrial plots remain idle.
According to a survey conducted by Invest UP in collaboration with Ramtek Software Private Limited, only a small fraction of allotted industrial plots across the state are operational. Out of 33,493 plots surveyed, 8,200 remain vacant. In the YEIDA region, around 94% of 3,476 plots are yet to be utilized — only eight are operational, 198 are under construction, and six are non-functional.
In comparison, the Noida Authority region shows a much higher industrial activity level, with 5,308 of 7,742 plots operational and just 497 lying vacant — the lowest vacancy rate in the state. The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has also recorded a moderate vacancy rate, with 416 of 2,677 plots unoccupied.
The survey is part of a state-wide initiative to map industrial land utilisation and identify idle properties for reallocation. Using GPS-tagged photographs, GST, and MSME registration data, the state is building a comprehensive real-time database through the Nivesh Mitra single-window portal.
Across Uttar Pradesh, the survey indicates that 51% of industrial plots are operational, 15% are non-functional, and 25% remain vacant. Authorities are now evaluating steps to cancel allotments for long-unused plots and reassign them to active enterprises.
With the Noida Airport nearing completion, the government aims to attract new investors and industries to the region. The development of unused industrial plots is expected to play a crucial role in boosting employment and supporting the state’s vision of becoming a $1 trillion economy.
