The Mysuru Development Authority (MDA) has initiated steps toward executing a 105.31 km Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) encircling the city, with plans to lay the foundation stone by late 2026.
Global tenders have been floated to appoint a Project Consultant for preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The DPR exercise carries a budget allocation of ₹7.5 crore. Once appointed, the consultant will have six months to complete the DPR, which will detail alignment, land acquisition, bridges, service roads, and cost estimates.
The proposed ring road is designed to be 45 metres wide, with a six-lane (3+3) carriageway and accompanying service roads. The alignment will roughly encircle Mysuru beyond its current Outer Ring Road, connecting peripheral localities and mitigating traffic load on existing infrastructure.
Under earlier plans, the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) also floated tenders for the DPR, but faced low response. The effort has now been taken forward by MDA, which expects renewed momentum. Among three companies that submitted technical bids, one is based in Karnataka and others are from Gujarat and Maharashtra.
The project is seen as a strategic infrastructure move to stimulate development in the outskirts of Mysuru, promote connectivity, and decongest central roads. However, public discourse suggests that residents hope for complementary planning — such as new residential layouts and people-centric infrastructure — rather than only road expansion.
With the DPR process underway and three firms vying for the contract, the timeline for the PRR’s groundwork is contingent on approvals, funding, and administrative clearances. Should the plan progress without significant delays, the ambitious ring road may transform how traffic circulates around Mysuru by the end of 2026.
