The Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) project is set to add a key safety feature to India’s road infrastructure. The project will include dedicated overbridges only for two-wheelers and cyclists. This is a first-of-its-kind initiative for a large ring road project in the country.
A total of 18 overbridges will be built along the STRR corridor. These structures will allow two-wheelers and bicycles to cross the road safely. They will not need to enter high-speed traffic lanes. This separation is expected to improve safety and reduce conflicts between slow- and fast-moving vehicles.
Each overbridge will be 45 to 50 metres long. Entry and exit will be provided through metallic ramps measuring 80 to 100 metres. The ramps will feature non-slippery surfaces. This design will support safe usage during all weather conditions, including rain.
The cost of constructing these exclusive crossings is estimated at ₹21.18 crore. The investment forms part of the larger STRR infrastructure plan. The focus is on safety, durability, and uninterrupted traffic movement on the main road.
The STRR is a major regional connectivity project around Bengaluru. It aims to reduce traffic congestion within the city by diverting long-distance and freight vehicles. The inclusion of infrastructure for two-wheelers and cyclists reflects a more inclusive transport approach.
Officials state that the overbridges are planned at locations with high local traffic movement. These areas include junctions near satellite towns and connecting roads. The placement is intended to improve access for daily commuters and nearby residents.
Once completed, the overbridges are expected to lower accident risks. They will also improve last-mile connectivity along the STRR corridor. Details on construction timelines and final locations are expected as the project moves forward.
