Blackstone is planning to invest about ₹10,000 crore in a hyperscale data centre campus in Chennai. The move reflects the company’s continued focus on expanding digital infrastructure in India.
The proposed campus will be developed in Ambattur, Chennai. The area is fast becoming a preferred destination for large data centre projects. The campus is expected to start with an initial IT load capacity of around 216 megawatts. This makes it one of the largest data centre developments planned in the city.
The project will be developed in phases. Capacity will be added over time. This phased approach allows the project to align with future market demand.
The development will be carried out through Blackstone’s digital infrastructure platform, Lumina CloudInfra. The platform focuses on building large-scale and efficient data centres across key Indian markets. For the Chennai project, Blackstone has partnered with Bengaluru-based Beary Group. The developer has experience in executing large real estate developments. The project will follow a design-build-deliver model. This model supports faster execution and smoother project delivery.
The Chennai data centre is part of Blackstone’s wider expansion strategy in India. The company is already developing data centre projects in cities such as Mumbai and Hyderabad. These developments aim to support growing demand for cloud services, enterprise data storage, and advanced computing.
India’s data centre market continues to see steady growth. Data usage is increasing across sectors. Cloud adoption is rising. Artificial intelligence platforms are also expanding. These trends are driving demand for hyperscale data centres.
