The Government of Karnataka has announced plans for a major data centre park spanning around 300 acres in the Tavarekere area, located close to Hoskote and Kolar.
The land acquisition will be handled by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB), which intends to acquire approximately 1,000 acres in this region. Of that, around 250-300 acres will be earmarked for the main data centre park.
The new project will adopt a hub-and-spoke model: the hub will be a high-capacity, gigawatt-scale data centre, and the spokes will consist of multiple 25-30 MW “edge” data centres in key cities such as Mysuru, Hubballi and Belagavi. This structure aims to drive digital infrastructure development beyond Bengaluru.
One of the objectives of this initiative is to support the growth of the digital economy in Karnataka by hosting not only large-scale data capacity but also decentralised edge facilities across the state. The initiative has reportedly drawn interest from domestic and global industry players, with facilitation from the state’s IT and electronics development agencies.
By locating the primary facility in the Tavarekere-Hoskote-Kolar region, the government intends to strengthen the state’s status as a technology and data-services hub while extending digital infrastructure into other districts. Construction timelines, investment details and specific partner selections are yet to be publicly disclosed.
As the data-centre market continues to grow in India, this park marks a strategic step by the Karnataka government to position itself for further growth in digital infrastructure. Further announcements are expected in due course.
