Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has floated tenders worth ₹6.86 crore to initiate geotechnical investigations across four packages for Namma Metro Phase 3A, the stretch between Sarjapur in the southeast and Hebbal in the north. The last date for submitting bids is November 3, 2025, and awarded contractors will have 150 days from the award date to complete the preliminary work.
The geotechnical investigation phase involves soil testing and ground surveys critical to determining foundation designs for the metro infrastructure. This marks the first step toward construction, even as the line’s final approvals and detailed design phases continue.
Phase 3A is designed as a combination of underground and elevated sections, connecting key nodes across Bengaluru including the CBD corridor. The project was approved by the Karnataka Cabinet in December 2024, although formal sanction from the Union government is still pending.
In recent years, the cost estimate for Phase 3A has drawn scrutiny. The line is budgeted at approximately ₹28,405 crore, making it one of the most expensive metro stretches proposed in Bengaluru’s history. The center has reportedly asked for a revision to reduce the high projected cost.
Implementation of this metro stretch will require extensive acquisition of land across 161 acres, impacting over 800 properties between Sarjapur and Hebbal. Local communities and stakeholders have been informed about properties that may be affected along the route.
The move to begin preliminary work signals Bengaluru’s intent to accelerate its metro expansion plans. As major infrastructure projects converge, Phase 3A is expected to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and support urban mobility across southeastern to northern corridors.
