The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced that the second train for the Pink Line of Namma Metro will be dispatched on Friday, bringing the city one step closer to expanding its mass rapid transit operations. The development is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Bengaluru’s metro network and improve public transport capacity across the city.
The Pink Line, also known as the ORR (Outer Ring Road) Line, is a strategic corridor designed to serve key residential and business areas, connecting localities along the Outer Ring Road. It is expected to play an important role in reducing travel times and easing congestion on major arterial roads that currently handle heavy traffic volumes.
BMRCL officials said that commissioning the second train is a significant milestone in preparing the Pink Line for expanded operations. The new train will support enhanced scheduling and frequency during trial runs, which are being conducted in accordance with safety protocols and regulatory requirements. The agency continues to coordinate with relevant authorities to ensure that all systems — including signalling, tracks, and power — function seamlessly before the full passenger service launch.
The Pink Line has been developed in phases, with multiple stations planned to serve densely populated and economically important zones. Once operational, the corridor is expected to connect commuters to key nodes such as major tech parks, commercial hubs, and residential clusters. The line’s design also envisages improved last-mile connectivity through feeder services once revenue operations begin.
BMRCL has been progressively expanding Bengaluru’s metro footprint, with several other lines either in advanced stages of construction or planning. The addition of this second train on the Pink Line is expected to accelerate preparations ahead of an official inauguration and commencement of passenger services.
Urban transport experts note that enhancing metro capacity is critical for supporting Bengaluru’s rapid growth as an IT and business centre. Enhanced metro services can provide commuters with alternatives to road travel, potentially reducing vehicular congestion and contributing to more sustainable urban mobility.
Further updates on trial completion dates and the timeline for commercial operations on the Pink Line are expected to be released by BMRCL as the project progresses towards final approvals.
