The purchase of around 100 acres of property in various locations throughout the city is expected to be a significant step forward for the ambitious Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project. The relocation is necessary to make it easier to build depots, metro corridors, and related infrastructure. To guarantee the least amount of disturbance to locals and businesses, officials said the land purchase procedure would be coordinated with the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) and the Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (APMRC).
The metro project is being developed using a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with the goal of enhancing public transportation connectivity and reducing traffic congestion. The first phase, which would cover important roads from Steel Plant to Bhogapuram Airport and pass through important residential and business districts, will be roughly 79 kilometers long. The 100 acres that need to be purchased are made up of specific plots that authorities have determined are needed for metro stations, depots, and parking facilities.
Officials stressed that the process of acquiring the land will be transparent and that packages for rehabilitation and compensation will be created in accordance with government regulations. Every effort is being made to prevent the relocation of homes and businesses whenever feasible. In order to guarantee that local communities are informed and that their concerns are taken into consideration during implementation, public consultations are also scheduled.
One of the state’s premier urban development initiatives, the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail is anticipated to drastically alter the city’s transportation system. Once in operation, it will not only cut down on travel time and vehicle pollution, but it will also encourage the region’s sustainable urban expansion. By facilitating better access to business centers, industrial zones, and developing residential hubs, the initiative is expected to increase economic activity.
Authorities are hopeful that the first phase of the metro might be operational in the coming years if land acquisition and construction proceed as planned. For Visakhapatnam’s residents, this project offers a long-overdue remedy for the city’s traffic problems and a significant step toward developing into a smart, linked coastal city.
