The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has launched a centralised digital property registry aimed at transforming the way property records are managed across the city. The new system replaces fragmented manual records with a GIS-driven, map-based digital platform designed to improve accuracy, transparency and operational efficiency in property administration.

Under this initiative, every property within GHMC limits will be assigned a unique digital profile. These profiles will contain comprehensive details including building identification numbers, property tax identification numbers, land use classification, ownership information, plot size, number of floors, dwelling units and approved building permits. Utility connections such as water supply, sanitation and electricity will also be mapped and integrated into the system.

The digital registry consolidates all supporting documents, inspection records and approvals into a single platform, reducing dependence on physical files and manual verification. Officials stated that this will significantly improve data consistency while enabling quicker access to property information for both administrators and citizens.

A key feature of the system is a QR-enabled mobile GIS application. QR codes affixed to properties will allow GHMC field staff to instantly retrieve property data during inspections. Property owners will also be able to view their records, request corrections and access municipal services through a self-service digital portal. Each inspection or data update will be geo-tagged and time-stamped, ensuring accountability and real-time database synchronisation.

According to GHMC officials, the platform is expected to function as a digital command and monitoring system. It will assist in identifying data discrepancies, tracking unauthorised constructions and improving property tax compliance. Automated alerts and analytics are expected to help officials respond faster to anomalies and policy requirements.

The digital registry is also expected to strengthen coordination between different municipal departments by providing a single, unified property database. This integration is intended to support better urban planning, improved service delivery and long-term infrastructure management.

With Hyderabad continuing to expand rapidly, the introduction of a digital property registry is seen as a significant step towards modernising civic administration. GHMC officials noted that the system will evolve further with additional features and wider citizen participation, supporting the city’s broader digital governance objectives
