The ITPB Metro Skywalk, a new elevated pedestrian bridge designed to enhance last‑mile connectivity between the Pattandur Agrahara Metro Station and the International Tech Park Bangalore (ITPB) in Whitefield, was inaugurated on Friday, offering safer and faster access for thousands of daily commuters.
The 320‑foot skywalk, elevated approximately 24 feet above the road, provides a direct link from the Purple Line metro station to ITPB and the adjacent Park Square Mall, eliminating the need for pedestrians to cross busy roads and reducing conflicts with vehicular traffic below.
This infrastructure initiative primarily serves the Whitefield tech corridor, where tens of thousands of IT professionals commute daily. Estimates suggest that more than 50,000–55,000 commuters are expected to benefit from the seamless connection, which significantly cuts walking time and enhances safety for metro users entering and leaving the business park. In addition to linking the metro station and tech park, the skywalk’s direct route also connects offices with Park Square Mall, offering added convenience for employees who visit the mall before or after work. Prior to the skywalk, employees and visitors had to navigate a congested service road, posing risks and delays during peak hours.
Built with structural steel and concrete, the skywalk incorporates modern features such as ramps, elevators, and energy‑efficient lighting to ensure usability for people of all ages and mobility levels. The project was developed through a public‑private partnership between CapitaLand’s ITPB and the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited, with design approvals and coordination facilitated by the metro authority.
The introduction of the skywalk is expected to encourage greater use of the metro by commuters in one of Bengaluru’s busiest commercial hubs, supporting efforts to reduce road congestion and promote public transport use. By streamlining the transition between metro services and workplace destinations, the new infrastructure represents a key step toward improving urban mobility in the Whitefield area.
