UK-based semiconductor and artificial intelligence hardware company Graphcore, backed by SoftBank Group, has leased office space at Bagmane World Technology Center in Bengaluru. This marks the company’s first office in India and its formal entry into the Indian technology market.

Bagmane World Technology Center is located on Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road, a well-known technology corridor that houses several global and Indian companies. The area is recognised for its strong infrastructure, connectivity, and access to a skilled workforce. Graphcore’s presence in this technology park places it within one of the city’s most active business zones.

Graphcore is known for designing Intelligence Processing Units, also called IPUs. These chips are built specifically for artificial intelligence and machine learning workloads. The company focuses on high-performance computing solutions that support complex AI models and data-intensive applications. In 2024, Graphcore became a wholly owned subsidiary of SoftBank Group, strengthening its global expansion plans.

India is expected to play an important role in Graphcore’s long-term strategy. The company has outlined plans to invest in engineering and research capabilities in the country. Bengaluru has been selected as the base for these operations due to its established semiconductor ecosystem and availability of experienced engineering talent.

The newly leased office at Bagmane World Technology Center will support Graphcore’s global product development efforts. Teams based in Bengaluru are expected to work on chip architecture, software development, and artificial intelligence research. Hiring is expected to take place in phases, with roles focused on AI engineering and semiconductor design.

Bengaluru continues to attract global semiconductor and deep-technology companies as India strengthens its position in the global technology value chain. The city is widely regarded as a hub for research, innovation, and advanced computing.
