The Government of Karnataka has announced a comprehensive infrastructure investment of ₹1.2 lakh crore aimed at transforming Bengaluru’s transport and road network. The package covers major interventions including metro expansion, new tunnel roads, outer ring roads, elevated corridors and large-scale white-topping of city roads.
Among the key initiatives is a 500 km white-topping programme, designed to upgrade and strengthen major arterial roads across Bengaluru. The plan allocates approximately ₹4,000 crore specifically for this measure, aiming to address long-standing issues of potholes and surface deterioration.
In the same infrastructure package, the government has given clear signals to accelerate metro expansion, tunnel roads and elevated corridors intended to decongest the city. These include Metro line extensions, strategic tunnel road alignments, elevated flyovers and the proposed Bengaluru Business Corridor 117 km in length.
Officials have also mandated that all 28 lakh properties in the city be brought under the e-khata system as part of the broader drive. Roadworks include 182 roads covering 350 km under black-topping worth ₹695 crore, in addition to the white-topping programme and elevated infrastructure works.
The announcement outlines a clear roadmap for sustained infrastructure development in Bengaluru, aimed at reducing travel time, improving connectivity to employment hubs, and ensuring durable road surfaces for the future. With the budget allocation and plan now public, the next phases involve detailed project reports, approvals, tendering and execution across multiple corridors.
