Bengaluru’s long-awaited first double-decker flyover, located at the Silk Board Junction, is entering its final phase of construction. Reports from the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) indicate that the elevated road corridor will likely be fully operational by December 2025 or in early 2026.
The structure aims to connect HSR Layout to BTM Layout, via a down-ramp at Ragi Gudda, allowing motorists to bypass the ground-level bottleneck at Silk Board. Steel girders are now being installed to complete the HSR-to-BTM connection.
Last year, a section of the flyover between Ragigudda and Silk Board was opened, providing relief in one direction. The reverse route has remained incomplete due to design modifications and engineering challenges, including issues with turning radius that led to switching from concrete segments to steel girders for part of the ramp.
Despite the progress, traffic signals at the Silk Board junction will remain in place, as the flyover itself won’t entirely eliminate ground-level congestion. Officials say significant traffic decongestion is expected once full ramp access is opened, but some signal-controlled movements will still rely on existing surface roads.
The project, spanning a length of approximately 5.5 km, has been under construction since late 2024 for various stretches. Delays have occurred due to tighter constraints during night work, and design changes necessary to meet engineering feasibility.
