The Karnataka Stamps and Registration Department has introduced a digital e-stamp service through its Kaveri 2.0 portal, making it easier for citizens to generate e-stamps for non-compulsory registrable documents such as rental, lease, loan, and partnership agreements.
Launched on September 6, the new service eliminates the need to visit authorized vendors or cooperative banks for e-stamps. Instead, citizens can register on the Kaveri 2.0 portal, enter document details, pay stamp fees online, and authenticate using Aadhaar. The system also provides a digital e-stamp with QR code verification.
Officials stated that this service is now available across Karnataka under the Karnataka Stamp (Digital e-Stamp) Rules, 2025. A video tutorial has been released on social media to guide users, and sub-registrars have been asked to educate document writers and advocates about the initiative.
The department noted that while compulsory registration documents under the Registration Act, Section 7 will still require physical processes, the new e-stamp service can be used for a wide range of other documents. The move is also expected to reduce costs, as citizens will no longer need to pay commissions to vendors or document writers.
