ST Telemedia Global Data Centres India (STT GDC India) has officially launched its state-of-the-art 45 MW AI-ready data centre at the Siruseri campus in Chennai. This facility marks a massive expansion in Southern India, catering to the skyrocketing demand for high-density computing and cloud infrastructure.

Phase-wise Development and Strategic Investment

The project is being rolled out in strategic stages to ensure scalability:

  • Phase 1 Capacity: 7.2 MW (Now Operational).

  • Total Capacity: 45 MW upon full completion.

  • Total Investment: ₹4,200 crore committed to Tamil Nadu.

The facility was e-inaugurated by M. K. Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, underscoring the state’s mission to become India’s leading data centre hub. This commitment to high-tech infrastructure mirrors the trend of global giants deepening their roots in India, such as when Texas Instruments strengthened its India operations with a new R&D centre.

Why “AI-Ready” Infrastructure Matters

Unlike traditional data centres, this Siruseri facility is specifically engineered for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and hyperscale workloads.

Key Features of AI-Ready Data Centres:

  1. High-Density Computing: Capable of housing power-hungry AI chips and servers.

  2. Scalable Power: Designed to handle massive data spikes from digital platforms.

  3. Hyperscale Support: Optimized for global cloud providers and large enterprises.

This leap in infrastructure is timely, especially as Bengaluru records three key semiconductor developments that are pushing the limits of local hardware and processing requirements.

Strengthening Chennai’s Tech Ecosystem

STT GDC India already operates a 40 MW facility in Ambattur. With the addition of the Siruseri campus, the company’s total capacity in Chennai is expected to reach 130 MW.

This growth reflects a national pattern where tech hubs are expanding rapidly to accommodate global players, much like the recent move by Apple adding new office space at Hyderabad’s WaveRock Campus.

Across India, STT GDC India operates over 30 data centres in 10 major cities, including Mumbai, Noida, Pune, and Hyderabad. Their total operational IT load now exceeds 400 MW.
