Bengaluru witnessed three major developments in the semiconductor sector on 7 February 2026, reinforcing the city’s growing role in India’s electronics and chip design ecosystem. The developments included the release of a 2nm chip design by Qualcomm, the opening of Zetwerk’s new manufacturing plant at Aerospace Park, and the inauguration of new research and development facilities by Texas Instruments at Electronics City.

Qualcomm announced the tape-out and release of its 2-nanometre (2nm) chip design, completed at its Bengaluru engineering centre. The milestone marks a key stage in the chip development process, where the design is finalised before manufacturing. The company has highlighted India as one of its largest engineering hubs outside the United States, with Bengaluru playing a central role in advanced semiconductor design, software platforms and optimisation work.

On the manufacturing front, Zetwerk inaugurated its new plant at Aerospace Park, adding to India’s expanding electronics and hardware manufacturing footprint. The facility is expected to support production in high-precision engineering and electronics segments, aligning with broader efforts to strengthen domestic manufacturing and supply chains in critical technology areas.

The third development of the day saw Texas Instruments open its new R&D facilities at Electronics City in Bengaluru. The new centre is aimed at expanding the company’s research and engineering capabilities in India, focusing on semiconductor design, testing and product development. Texas Instruments has maintained a long-standing presence in the city, and the new facility further strengthens its local operations.

Together, these announcements highlight the increasing concentration of design, manufacturing and research activities in Bengaluru’s semiconductor and electronics ecosystem.
