Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority has announced plans to develop a network of elevated corridors across key parts of the city to improve traffic flow and strengthen urban connectivity. The proposed infrastructure projects aim to reduce congestion on arterial roads and offer faster travel between central locations and major growth corridors, including the Outer Ring Road.
According to officials, several elevated road projects are being planned to connect high-traffic areas such as Banjara Hills, Panjagutta, Mehdipatnam, Masab Tank, and Secunderabad with important commercial and residential hubs. These routes currently face heavy congestion during peak hours due to increasing vehicle density and limited road capacity. The elevated corridors are expected to streamline vehicular movement by providing uninterrupted travel across major junctions.
One of the key projects includes a multi-lane elevated corridor connecting Banjara Hills with Gachibowli, a prominent IT and business district. The corridor is designed to significantly reduce travel time between central Hyderabad and the western employment zones. Another major project is the proposed elevated road connecting Shamirpet to the Outer Ring Road, which is expected to improve accessibility to northern Hyderabad and nearby regions.
Urban planners and real estate observers note that large-scale transport infrastructure projects typically contribute to improved accessibility, which can influence real estate activity in surrounding areas. Enhanced connectivity often supports residential and commercial development by making peripheral and emerging locations more attractive for occupation and investment. Areas located near major transit corridors may experience increased demand due to better commute options and improved access to employment centres.
The elevated corridor initiative forms part of Hyderabad’s broader urban mobility strategy aimed at managing rapid population growth and rising traffic volumes. Along with easing congestion, the projects are expected to support long-term urban expansion by integrating existing road networks with future transport systems.
Implementation of the corridors is expected to take place in phases, subject to approvals and land clearances. Once completed, the projects are anticipated to play a key role in improving daily commuting efficiency while supporting Hyderabad’s evolving real estate and infrastructure landscape.
