Construction has commenced on the proposed circular skywalk at Banashankari Junction in Bengaluru, marking progress on a long-delayed urban infrastructure project. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is executing the project to improve pedestrian movement and manage congestion at one of the city’s key traffic intersections.

Planned as a circular elevated walkway, the structure is designed to allow pedestrians to move safely across multiple roads without interacting with vehicular traffic. The skywalk will span approximately 280 metres in length and have a width of 6 metres, providing adequate capacity for daily footfall in the busy junction area.

The project, estimated at ₹40–45 crore, is fully funded by BBMP and includes additional features such as lifts for accessibility, designated resting areas, and landscaping elements at both ground and elevated levels. These features are aimed at enhancing usability while ensuring inclusivity for all categories of commuters.

Officials indicate that the project is intended to streamline pedestrian movement while reducing pressure on road-level crossings. Banashankari Junction experiences heavy traffic volumes throughout the day, and the new infrastructure is expected to support better traffic flow by separating pedestrian and vehicular movement.

The development also aligns with broader efforts to upgrade urban mobility infrastructure in Bengaluru. Investments in pedestrian-focused projects are increasingly being prioritized alongside road expansion and public transport initiatives, particularly in high-density areas.

From a real estate perspective, infrastructure improvements at major junctions often contribute to increased accessibility and improved livability in surrounding areas. Enhanced pedestrian connectivity may also support commercial activity in nearby retail zones, while reinforcing the importance of transit-oriented development.

With construction now underway, the Banashankari skywalk project is expected to move through phased execution, subject to timelines and operational factors. The initiative reflects a continued focus on addressing urban mobility challenges through targeted infrastructure upgrades in Bengaluru.
