Greater Bengaluru Authority aims to complete 10 flyover and underpass projects across Bengaluru

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has stated that it aims to complete construction works on ten flyover and underpass projects across Bengaluru in 2026. The update was shared as part of an official response during the Karnataka Assembly session, outlining progress timelines for several long-pending road infrastructure developments in the city.

These projects form part of Bengaluru’s broader urban transport improvement plan, intended to ease traffic congestion and enhance connectivity across high-density corridors. With vehicle volumes increasing steadily due to population growth and urban expansion, the authority has prioritised the completion of grade separators, flyovers and underpasses at critical junctions.

The ten projects include a combination of flyovers, railway overbridges and underpasses located in both core city areas and peripheral zones. Many of these works have been under construction for several years and have experienced revised deadlines due to land acquisition issues, utility shifting, coordination challenges, and construction complexities in densely populated areas.

Among the major projects are flyovers and grade separators along key arterial roads, railway overbridges that improve cross-city movement, and underpasses aimed at eliminating traffic bottlenecks at busy intersections. These corridors handle significant daily traffic and are expected to contribute to smoother vehicular flow once completed.

The timelines provided by GBA indicate that some projects began as early as 2020, while others were initiated between 2021 and 2023. The authority has stated that all ten projects are now aligned for completion within 2026, subject to uninterrupted construction progress and timely coordination among agencies.

While ongoing works have led to traffic diversions and commuter inconvenience in several locations, officials have maintained that completing these projects will result in long-term benefits, including reduced travel time, improved road safety and better traffic distribution across the city’s road network.

The completion of these flyovers and underpasses is expected to play a key role in strengthening Bengaluru’s urban infrastructure, supporting economic activity, and addressing the city’s growing mobility demands in the coming years.
