The Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) has cleared Phase 2 of the Mumbai Coastal Road project. This phase will cover a 22.93 km corridor connecting Versova to Bhayander, enhancing connectivity across western Mumbai.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will now seek additional approvals from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and the Bombay High Court before project execution. Once completed, the extension is expected to reduce travel time, decongest major arterial routes, and provide a sustainable urban mobility solution.
The coastal road project is a major infrastructure initiative designed to ease traffic bottlenecks in Mumbai and provide faster connectivity between South Mumbai and the northern suburbs. Phase 2 adds significant value to the growing Mira–Bhayandar corridor by improving accessibility for residential and commercial developments in the region.
Experts note that the Versova–Bhayander stretch will integrate with other key infrastructure projects such as Metro Line 9 and the Dahisar–Bhayander elevated road, creating a seamless transport network. The corridor will also improve connectivity to business hubs and residential clusters while easing pressure on the Western Express Highway. With reduced congestion and shorter travel times, Phase 2 of the coastal road is expected to transform commuting patterns and enhance real estate potential in Mumbai’s western suburbs.
