The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has announced plans to develop nearly 25,000 housing plots for middle-income homebuyers by 2026. The initiative is part of a broader effort to expand affordable residential land availability while supporting structured urban growth across the Visakhapatnam metropolitan region. The proposed housing plots are expected to address increasing demand from salaried and middle-income families seeking legally approved and well-planned residential options.
According to officials, the housing plot development programme aligns with VMRDA’s long-term urban planning strategy and will be implemented alongside key infrastructure upgrades. The authority is currently focusing on completing its regional master plan, which aims to guide sustainable development, improve land use efficiency, and ensure better connectivity between residential zones and employment hubs. Road development, transport integration, and planned growth corridors are expected to play a critical role in supporting the new housing layouts.
VMRDA has also outlined plans to strengthen institutional systems and improve transparency in operations. Efforts are being made to resolve legacy land issues that have delayed past projects, while groundwork is being laid for future infrastructure initiatives. These steps are intended to improve project execution timelines and ensure that housing developments meet regulatory and planning standards.
As part of its citizen engagement strategy, the authority is introducing new digital platforms to improve interaction between residents and officials. Proposed measures include AI-based help desks, digital service portals, integrated grievance systems, and online access to housing and planning information. A weekly public interaction programme is also planned to provide citizens with a direct channel to raise concerns and seek clarifications related to development activities.
The development of middle-income housing plots is expected to contribute positively to the regional real estate market by increasing supply in planned locations and supporting balanced urban expansion. By combining physical infrastructure development with digital governance initiatives, VMRDA aims to create a more efficient, transparent, and citizen-friendly development framework. The programme reflects a broader focus on addressing housing demand while ensuring orderly growth across the Visakhapatnam metropolitan region.
