Digital Connexion, a joint venture backed by Reliance Industries, Brookfield, and Digital Realty, has announced a major investment plan of USD 11 billion to establish a large-scale AI-native data-centre campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The project, planned over the next five years, aims to create one of India’s biggest data-centre hubs, supporting the growing demand for artificial intelligence, cloud computing and advanced digital services.

The proposed development will span around 400 acres and is designed to deliver up to 1 gigawatt of data-centre capacity by 2030. This makes it one of the largest single data-centre investments announced in the country. The agreement for this project was formalised with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board, marking a significant step in strengthening the state’s digital infrastructure.

According to the company, the upcoming Visakhapatnam campus will be specifically engineered to support high-density AI workloads. It will include advanced technological features such as scalable power systems, improved cooling technologies including liquid cooling, and robust network connectivity. These capabilities are expected to cater to hyperscalers, global enterprises, and fast-growing AI-driven businesses looking for modern digital infrastructure within India.

Visakhapatnam’s strategic advantages, including proximity to subsea cable landing stations and strong connectivity routes, played an important role in selecting the city for this project. The region is emerging as a preferred destination for large data-centre deployments due to its infrastructure readiness and supportive state policies.

The announcement aligns with India’s ongoing trend of increasing data-centre investments as the country rapidly adopts AI, cloud platforms and digital transformation initiatives. Industry estimates show a strong rise in demand for high-capacity data-centre parks, driven by both domestic and international technology companies. Projects with gigawatt-scale capacity are becoming more common as data processing and storage needs expand.

Digital Connexion currently operates a data-centre campus in Chennai and is developing another major site in Mumbai’s Chandivali area. The addition of the Visakhapatnam facility strengthens its national expansion strategy and contributes to India’s growing footprint as a global digital infrastructure hub.

This investment is expected to support economic development in Andhra Pradesh through job creation, improved digital services and enhanced technology capabilities, positioning the state as an important AI and data-centre destination in the years ahead.
