Tamil Nadu Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TNRERA) Chairman Shiv Das Meena has underlined the growing importance of transparency and accountability in property transactions across the state. Speaking at an awareness programme held in Madurai, he emphasised that the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA) has significantly strengthened the trust between homebuyers and developers by making project information easily accessible.

During the event, Meena released a detailed manual explaining key aspects of RERA compliance. The guide covers essential components such as project registration procedures, promoter responsibilities, norms for seeking project extensions, advertising guidelines, and penalties for violations. He highlighted that the RERA portal enables buyers to verify crucial project details before making any investment decision, contributing to safer and more transparent real estate transactions.

A major focus of his address was the structured grievance redressal mechanism offered under RERA. Meena stated that the system benefits both homebuyers and developers by ensuring that disputes are resolved more efficiently. He also reiterated that accountability is shared, as both promoters and buyers must adhere to the regulations set under the Act.

The awareness programme witnessed participation from over 150 industry stakeholders, including representatives from real estate developer associations, promoter groups, and industry bodies. Participants discussed practical challenges in project implementation and sought clarity on various compliance requirements. Industry members noted that such sessions help bridge the communication gap between regulators and developers, ensuring smoother execution of real estate projects.

TNRERA has also been actively promoting new measures aimed at improving transparency in the sector. One such measure includes the mandatory display of information boards at all construction sites. These boards must feature essential details such as the promoter’s name, project name, RERA registration number, estimated completion timeline, and a reference to the RERA portal where buyers can validate the project information.

The authority’s continued efforts reflect a broader initiative to strengthen buyer confidence and create a more transparent, regulated, and efficient real estate environment in Tamil Nadu. By promoting digital verification, improving disclosure standards, and conducting awareness programmes, TNRERA aims to ensure that property transactions remain fair and reliable for all stakeholders.
