The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) has approached the state government for administrative approval to acquire nearly 1,945 acres of land in Maduranthakam taluk, Chengalpet district, for the proposed Global City project near Chennai. The plan involves acquiring both private and government land across six villages — Attimanam, Janakipuram, Kallapiranpuram, Padalam, Palayanur, and Puliparakoll.

As outlined in the Tamil Nadu Budget 2025, the Global City will be developed over 2,000 acres, featuring integrated IT parks, commercial hubs, residential areas, recreation zones, and sustainable infrastructure. The project aims to attract global investors, promote industrial growth, and strengthen the state’s position as a major business destination in South India.

TIDCO’s proposal highlights that it will finance land acquisition and development costs, manage the implementation process, and handle rehabilitation and resettlement in compliance with state regulations. The corporation has requested formal approval from the Chengalpet District Collectorate to initiate the acquisition under the Tamil Nadu Acquisition of Land for Industrial Purposes Act.

The identified land parcels include 650.72 hectares of wetland, 75.61 hectares of dry land, 0.01 hectares of manavari land, and 61.18 hectares of government land. TIDCO selected this site after reviewing multiple locations across Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Chengalpet, and Tiruvallur districts for feasibility and connectivity advantages.

The upcoming Global City is expected to be well-connected to Chennai through metro extensions, upgraded highways, and smart mobility networks. The project also plans to integrate AI-driven urban management systems, digital twin simulations, and eco-friendly infrastructure to ensure a sustainable and technologically advanced urban ecosystem.

Once the Tamil Nadu government grants clearance, TIDCO will begin land acquisition and preliminary groundwork for the first phase of development. The project is anticipated to become a model for smart, inclusive urban growth, aligning with the state’s broader industrial and economic development goals.
