Bengaluru — The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has recorded a historic ₹2,424.93 crore in property tax collections in just the first two months of the 2025–26 financial year, setting a new benchmark in municipal revenue generation.
This impressive achievement is largely credited to several proactive initiatives by the civic body:
- 5% Early Payment Rebate: Property owners were offered a 5% rebate for payments made before May 31, which significantly boosted early compliance.
- Introduction of Waste Management User Fee: Alongside property tax, BBMP introduced a new waste management fee, expected to generate approximately ₹700 crore this year.
BBMP’s revenue department has set an ambitious target of ₹5,100 crore for the fiscal year. This includes ₹836.34 crore in pending dues from about 3.75 lakh property tax defaulters, and an additional ₹152.80 crore expected from revised assessments on 9,904 properties.
Zone-wise property tax collections as of May 30, 2025:
- Mahadevapura: ₹598.51 crore
- East Zone: ₹455.06 crore
- South Zone: ₹391.96 crore
- West Zone: ₹270.36 crore
- Bommanahalli: ₹258.63 crore
- Yelahanka: ₹197.97 crore
- Rajarajeshwari Nagar: ₹175.27 crore
- Dasarahalli: ₹77.17 crore
With this early momentum, the BBMP is well-positioned to achieve its annual revenue goals, paving the way for improved civic infrastructure and services across Bengaluru.
