LuLu Group International has announced the revival of its long-pending shopping mall project in Visakhapatnam, following a fresh agreement with the new Andhra Pradesh government. The project, which was originally proposed in 2018 but stalled due to administrative changes, will now move forward under an updated development plan and renewed official support.
According to the revised proposal, the state government has allocated nearly 13.74 acres of land at Harbour Park on Visakhapatnam’s Beach Road to LuLu Group on a long-term lease. This allocation clears a major hurdle for the construction of the mall, which is expected to become one of the city’s largest retail and entertainment hubs.
The upcoming LuLu Mall in Visakhapatnam is planned to cover approximately 13.5 lakh sq. ft of built-up area. It will feature a hypermarket, multi-brand retail stores, an eight-screen multiplex, a large food court, family entertainment zones, and ample parking facilities. With an estimated investment of around ₹1,000 crore, the project is expected to generate significant employment opportunities, including around 5,000 direct jobs and thousands of indirect jobs across retail, services, logistics, and facility management.
Recently, the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) cleared the proposal after reviewing the technical and commercial viability of the project. The state’s industrial development authorities have also been instructed to transfer possession of the designated land parcels to ensure that construction can begin without delays.
The revival of the project is expected to contribute to Visakhapatnam’s growth as a major commercial destination. The mall is projected to attract both local residents and tourists, adding to the city’s retail landscape. Government officials highlighted that such investments align with the broader vision of strengthening urban infrastructure, boosting employment, and enhancing economic activity in the coastal city.
At the same time, some civic groups have expressed concerns about the project’s location, citing possible traffic congestion and environmental impact. Public interest petitions have also been filed questioning the land allotment process. The state government has stated that all necessary evaluations and approvals are being carried out in accordance with regulations.
With the renewed agreement and regulatory clearances advancing, LuLu Group is preparing to begin construction soon, marking a key step in bringing the project back on track.
