With the Major Arterial Road (MAR) connecting Mysore Road to Magadi Road scheduled to open on November 1, 2025, a revolutionary new infrastructure project is almost finished. The new 11-kilometer corridor is intended to greatly cut down on travel time and alleviate traffic in West Bengaluru’s quickly expanding areas.

With toll-free access between two of the busiest radial roads in the city, this 100-meter-wide road is being heralded as a commuter game-changer. After it is put into service, it should relieve traffic on a number of internal sections that are currently congested by a lot of traffic from residential, commercial, and industrial developments along both corridors.

Important Aspects of the MAR

  • The Major Arterial Road has been carefully designed to integrate green design and sustainable mobility while guaranteeing seamless vehicle movement:
  • The main carriageway is 23 meters wide and designed to handle heavy traffic and high speeds.
  • A 3-meter-wide median improves safety and makes room for future growth or aesthetic enhancement.
  • A distinctive addition that provides visual appeal, green cover, and pedestrian-friendly zones is the 27.5-meter park area on each side.
  • Both flanks have 7-meter service roads: Designed for uninterrupted traffic flow and local access.
  • 2-meter-wide bike lanes: Encourage non-motorized transportation and support Bengaluru’s efforts to make commutes more environmentally friendly.
  • Two-meter-wide walkways: They improve walkability and guarantee safe pedestrian movement.

Increased Urban Connectivity

It is anticipated that the MAR will improve connectivity throughout developing areas that are experiencing a lot of residential and commercial activity, such as Kumbalgodu, Kengeri, and Byadarahalli. Additionally, the corridor is in line with broader mobility plans, such as the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project and the construction of the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR).

In addition to making cross-city travel easier, civic leaders and urban planners are hopeful that this project will spur development along the new arterial stretch. Senior government officials and specialists in urban infrastructure are expected to attend the opening ceremony.

The MAR, which combines accessibility, sustainability, and speed, stands out as a symbol of well-planned urban growth as Bengaluru continues to grow.
