Motorola Solutions, a leading global technology firm, has expanded its operations in Kolkata by leasing office space from Smartworks, India’s largest managed office space provider. The company has taken up over 200 seats at Smartworks’ modern coworking facility in the city, marking a strategic move to strengthen its presence in eastern India.
The new office is part of Smartworks’ 110,000 sq. ft. Kolkata centre, which offers tech-enabled, fully serviced workspaces for enterprises. The lease, signed for 60 months, reflects growing corporate demand for flexible, scalable, and cost-efficient office solutions. Located in one of Kolkata’s prime business districts, the workspace is designed to meet evolving corporate needs, offering plug-and-play infrastructure, collaborative zones, and a premium work environment.
Smartworks, known for its strong enterprise client base, has been expanding rapidly across India. In the quarter ending June 2025, the company leased over one million sq. ft. of workspace across major cities, including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, and Kolkata. With an operational portfolio of over 10 million sq. ft., Smartworks has maintained 83% occupancy and a committed occupancy exceeding 89%, underscoring strong demand for managed office spaces in India’s commercial hubs.
For Motorola Solutions, this expansion aligns with its strategy to enhance business agility and employee convenience by leveraging flexible workspace solutions. Kolkata’s growing business ecosystem, access to skilled talent, and improving infrastructure make it an emerging destination for global and domestic enterprises alike.
Industry experts note that the deal reflects a broader trend of corporations shifting from traditional leases to managed workspaces to accommodate hybrid work models and optimize real estate costs. This collaboration also highlights Kolkata’s transformation into a vibrant commercial market, attracting IT, telecom, and service-sector companies.
With this partnership, both Motorola Solutions and Smartworks reaffirm their commitment to building agile, innovative, and employee-friendly work environments. The move also reinforces Smartworks’ position as a key player in India’s evolving flexible workspace sector.
